12V Electric Trike

It started life as a Kettler 6V electric police trike, I would post a picture, but I can't find one. My son had outgrown it, so having watched many editions of "Scrapheap Challenge" he decided that his dad would build something cool out of it !

The back section was cut off including the motor, wheels etc.. The front forks were also kept.

Then a pair of rails were made up from 1" box, to form the new extended chassis. The old rear end was bolted on, and a front swivel was made up from 12mm Threaded rod.

The front forks were entended and a cross brace welded in to take the swivel.

Foot rests were added and a "throttle" foot switch was made up. A large 17Ah 12V Sealed Lead/Acid Battery was used for power, and an old P6 rear arm rest was used to make a nice leather seat.

It suffered a couple of issues, firstly the plastic wheels provided little grip, and with the 12V battery it would spin the drive wheel for about the first 15 feet, the second problem was of course he decided it was too slow.. So it was time for stage two..
